The story focuses on the character Jack Harper (played by Tom Cruise). The year was 2077. Jack Harper and other men were sent to the destroyed Earth for maintaining the drones that defend power stations. Later, he is captured by the scavs, lead by Malcolm Beech (played by Morgan Freeman), who let the Jack go to find the truth on his own. Ultimately, Jack has to sacrifice his own life to protect the survivors of the scavs.
Production began on March of 2012. Principal photography took place over many places including Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Also, Iceland was chosen for most of the filming. The soundtrack for Oblivion was composed by French electronic band M83. Promotion of the film started in April 2012 with the combination of concept art and animation along with unfinished dailies.
Oblivion was released in the month of April 2013 in the Hollywood at the Dolby Theatre. Followed by the release, the film was also released on DVD and Blu ray. The film was not so successful on the box office. Still, Oblivion was a hit worldwide. Grossing over $37 million, it was the best North American Opening film for Tom Cruise. Oblivion received mixed as well as positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes give the film a rating of 54% based on 216 reviews. The film got average score of 5.9 out of 10. MetaCritic, on the basis of forty reviews, film scored 54/100.
Oblivion is a great film with visually striking and amazing scenes but not a very great storyline. Although the performance of Tom Cruise push the film for the best, but it couldn’t do enough for the film.
