Monsters University is a narration about Sulley and Mike and they are monsters. They study at college and at the beginning of the movie, they do not like each other much. Later on, they are best friends. Billy Crystal represents Michael Wazowski, also called Mike. John Goodman is Sulley, Steve Buscemi is Randall Boggs or Randy. Helen Mirren plays Dean Abigail, John Ratzenberger is the Abominable Snowman. Randy Newman composed the music for the movie, and this cooperation with Pixar Animation Studios is his seventh.
Global illumination was used for the first time in Pixar Studios wen creating this movie. It is the latest lighting system that represents a repair of the rendering system. Before this innovative system, shadows and reflections were created manually. A new technical skill imitates the light, offers soft shadows, and looks more realistic. The movie producer and director made a research by visiting few American colleges like Stanford University, Harvard University, and the University of Alabama. They spend a lot of time studying and monitoring the student lifestyle, professors’ teaching techniques, the architecture of the colleges, and more. They used their acquired knowledge and put it into this amazing and funny movie.
Monsters University was released on June 5 in 2013 in London, UK and was released on June 21 2013 in America. In theatres, it was presented together with The Blue Umbrella, a short movie by Saschka Unseld. The movie was a box office success with $743 million. The estimated budget was $200 million. Positive reviews were received.
