Living his life for centuries, Adam who is a vampire cannot be used to a modern way of life with the latest technology. Adam is a rock star and acts in Detroit. Adam’s wife Eve, played by Tilda Swinton, has a residence in Tangier and thrives in the new world. Adam is stressed over the society and world in general and Eve sense that. She flies to visit him in order to help him. After a short time, Eve’s sister Ava appears after 90 years and interrupts the couple’s perfect encounter. Ava is played by Mia Wasikowska.
The actors started shooting Only Lovers Left Alive, knowing that Jim Jarmusch cannot provide financing at that time. This vampire love tale was financed from NRW Filmstiftung. Fassbender was replaced by Tom Hiddleston in January 2012. The movie started filming in June 2012 in Detroit, and also in Hamburg, and Tangiers. It was continued shooting in Cologne in Germany in August.
The first release of Only Lovers Left Alive was on April 2013, at the Cannes Film Festival. After that, it was released at many festivals like Toronto Film Festival, Reykjavík Film Festival, and Film Festival Cinematik. It was an opening movie for the American Film Festival number four. The movie received positive reviews at the Cannes Film Festival. The performances of Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston were rated 4 out of 5 stars. The dialogues are considered amusing and the gag delivering is cold. The Guardian rated the movie with 3 stars.
